The first opportunity
Learn how to help younger children feel supported, follow routines, and enjoy learning. Begin with short visits, then take on longer placements as your confidence and skills grow.
A good fit for a student who is dependable, patient, respectful, and ready to accept feedback. Strong learning habits, kindness, and sound judgment all matter.
An adult remains responsible for supervision, safety, and behaviour decisions.
What you’ll gain
Watch an experienced teacher, practise useful skills, and gradually take on more responsibility.
Develop patience, communication, safety awareness, and positive ways to guide and encourage others.
Complete an Evergreen certificate documenting your hours and the skills you have demonstrated.
This experience can help you prepare for future camp or babysitting opportunities. First Aid and CPR training would be completed separately through an appropriate provider. The Evergreen certificate does not replace those qualifications or an employer’s requirements.
How to take part
We’re starting with one student so there is time for close coaching and feedback.
Applications are coming soon.
Dates, eligibility, and application instructions will be posted here once the pilot is ready.
Tell us why you’re interested and share an example of responsibility.

Time commitment: The proposed pathway is 40 hours over about 8–10 weeks. Short observation visits come first, followed by assisting, half days, and occasional full days when the student is ready. Teachers will agree on a plan that protects essential academic work.
Earning the certificate: Students keep a record of their hours, receive feedback, and demonstrate safe, dependable work. Assessment covers communication, classroom routines, positive guidance, activity planning, confidentiality, safety awareness, professionalism, and reflection. Attendance alone does not earn the certificate.
Adult responsibility: The student is never left in sole charge of children. Personal care, medication, serious behaviour concerns, and emergencies remain adult responsibilities.
Before recruitment: Exact age eligibility, the schedule, family consent, and any pay or other recognition will be confirmed. “Apprentice” is the name of this school learning role.
